Our History
The Győr - Szombathely line of Hungarian West Railway Company has been opened, and therefore it was necessary to build a bigger industrial room. In this industrial room the vehicles of company are repaired. The industrial room of Hungarian West Railway Company started to work in 1872, with 90 workers. When the industrial room was the property of Hungarian Royal State Railways, its surface was expanded step by step and continually more modern machinery helped the work of repairs.
In the fifties the numbers of workers and number of repaired vehicles grew to a large extent. In the sixties the two-axles wood-carcass passenger carriages were turned into up-to-date passenger wagons of steel-cabinets. This gave the company remarkable experience in the field of passenger wagon manufacturing and repairing. ![]()
The end of the sixties and the seventies were determinant in the life of our company. The reparation of steam locomotives was replaced by reparation of little and medium capacity diesel locomotives and motor engines. The wagons repair department overcame full reconstruction.
The profile of wagons repair was renewed; the old wagons made at the beginning of the century were changed by new, two-axles ones. Wagons changed new two-axles wagons. The new technology of modern diesel locomotives and wagons repairs improved. At the start of the eighties the profile of our company extended. The company got the repairs of Czech Bz-Bzx two-axles motor- and secondary wagons. The task was completed successfully, this was a very relevant trial of strength. This case advanced form more skilled worker group. |
From 30. December 1992., the company was transformed into a Ltd., called MÁV Vasjármű Járműjavító és Gyártó Kft. (MVJ). Since the privatisation of the company in 1999 the activities of the former company have been continued and the holder structure became a mixed one. Besides the workshop in Szombathely, there are different kind of running repairs of freight waggons beeing carried out in the workshop in Celldömölk.
